What we do — and do not — collect

You can read every review, rating and comparison table on this Site without creating an account, and we never ask you for a password or payment details.

Like most websites, our hosting provider and any analytics tool we enable automatically record standard technical information about a visit: the pages you view, when you visited and for how long, your browser and device type, an approximate region derived from an IP address, and the page that referred you to us.

If you email us a question, a correction or a tip, we keep your email address and the content of your message so that we can reply and follow up.

How we use information

We use the information above to keep the Site working and secure, to see which reviews and apps people actually read so we can improve them, to spot spam or automated abuse, and to answer messages you send us.

We do not build advertising profiles about you, and we do not sell or rent personal information to anyone.

Cookies and similar technology

Our host may set a small number of strictly necessary cookies so the Site can be delivered securely. Any analytics we enable sets cookies that help us count visitors and understand which pages are useful.

When you click through to an app store, a developer's website or a payment page, that third party may set its own cookies and receive information that you arrived from our Site. Those cookies are governed by the third party's privacy policy, not by ours.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time, and most browsers offer a private-browsing mode. Turning cookies off may stop some parts of the Site from working as intended.

Affiliate links and compensation

Some links on this Site are affiliate or referral links. If you choose to buy a subscription after clicking one, we may receive a commission from the app's publisher at no extra cost to you, and that relationship never changes the price you pay.

Ratings, rankings and the 'Top Pick' label reflect our own editorial judgement. Affiliate relationships do not buy a higher position, and the affiliate networks that operate these links may process limited data in order to record and pay referrals.

Who we share information with

We share information only with the service providers that help us run the Site — for example our hosting and analytics providers — and only to the extent they need it to perform that job under our instructions.

We may also disclose information if we are required to by law or a valid legal request, to protect the rights, safety or property of the Site and its users, or in connection with a sale or reorganisation of the business that operates the Site.

Third-party apps and links

Every review links out to app stores, developers and other websites. We do not control those sites, we cannot inspect their practices, and this policy stops the moment you leave our Site.

Before you install an app or buy a subscription, read the privacy notice of the developer and the store, because the plant data, photos and location permissions those apps request are their responsibility, not ours.

How long we keep information

Server and analytics records are generally kept for a short period and then deleted or aggregated so they can no longer be linked to you.

We keep an email you send us only for as long as needed to answer you and to follow up on a correction. If you ask us to delete something we hold about you, we will do so unless we have a lawful reason to keep it.

Your choices and rights

Where these rights apply to you — for example under the GDPR, the UK GDPR or the CCPA/CPRA — you can ask to access the personal information we hold about you, have it corrected, have it deleted, take it with you, object to or restrict certain processing, or withdraw consent you previously gave.

You can also object to the sale or sharing of personal information where those laws use those terms; we do not sell or share it in the first place. International processing

The Site is hosted and served from wherever our providers operate, which may be outside the country you live in.

Where that happens we rely on safeguards recognised for such transfers, such as standard contractual clauses, and we keep the information transferred to the minimum each service actually needs.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures — such as delivery over HTTPS and access limited to the systems that need it — to protect information about visits to the Site.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.

Children

The Site is a general-interest consumer review site and is not directed at children under 16.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
